Generally, PVC plastics are used in the manufacture of pipes. Usually, PVC pipes and PVC joints are lightweight, strong and low-reactive. PVC pipes are well-suited in underground wiring, sanitary and water-distribution applications.
The main benefits in PVC pipes are they do not rust and it is affordable materials for potable-water piping. There are some different types of PVC pipes including schedule (40, 80, and 120), grey schedule and Chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC). Nowadays PVC is used in a wide spectrum of pipes applications and it is mainly used as water application and also for other applications. Let’s discuss the PVC pipes applications.
PVC pipes in water applications:
PVC piping systems are mainly used for the water applications and they are used in several areas for the transport of water. It helps to deliver drinking water, remove sewage or waste products to drainage.
- Drinking water: The main application of PVC pipe is the distribution of drinking water and its diameter size from 75mm to 250mm. PVC pipes main characteristic is long term resistance to pressure which is expressed as the Minimum Required Stress (MRS).
- Soil and waste: PVC pipes are used to the evacuation of wastewater without pressure inside the buildings, industries. For this process diameter of the pipe size is greater than 160mm.
- For sewage and underground drainage: PVC pipes are used to evacuation the sewage water and intended to be buried in the ground. For this purpose the diameter size of pipe from 160mm to 630mm. PVC pipes are also used to evacuation the rainwater into the ground and for this diameter of the pipe size is from 50mm to 160mm.
- Hot and cold: sometimes PVC pipes and PVC joints are used for the distribution of hot and cold water and also for heating system installation. The main characteristic of PVC pipes is the long term resistance to hot water pressure and size range covers diameter from DN16 to DN160.
Cable protection:
PVC pipes are used for protection of electrical cables mainly inside buildings and these pipes can be smooth and generally of small diameter greater than 25mm. Larger pipe for cable protection from 50 to 100mm.
Industrial piping applications:
PVC pipes are also used in the industrial applications for everything from process cooling water to the transport of chemicals. It is used widely for many years in the industry because of its high corrosion resistance.
Fire sprinklers:
CPVC piping system is used for fire sprinkler systems installed in many public places such as theatres, museums, libraries, office, hotels, and other high-rise buildings. For this process, you need the best quality of the pipe and cpvc pipe price is low when compared with other pipe materials.
PVC pipes are effective in protecting the environment in terms of low greenhouse gas emissions and the conservation of resources and energy. It is because PVC is strong, lightweight and resistant to moisture and abrasion. PVC pipes are low in cost but it is used many applications. The PVC pipe is cheap and best material when compared with other pipe materials.
